Sometimes You Need To Start A Shit-posting Account
Which is exactly what I did on Instagram with @get_that_kid_off_my_ice and I must say it has been a stress reliever and a good way to fit in all the eclectic things I’m amused by; such random content doesn’t have a place on my personal feed (as if I really do care, but I must consider my audience who takes their time with me already) so I have myself some fun, or get out whatever it is I’m feeling.
The quote in my Medium bio is from this frame taken out of a ‘GI Joe PSA’ parody by filmmaker Eric Fensler (Fensler Films), who’s spoofs of the real Public Service Announcements featured at the end of each episode of the GI Joe cartoon series that ran in the late 1980’s grew popular on the flash site eBaum’s World in 2003. With its popularity, Hasbro would file a ‘cease and desist’ claim for copyright infringement against eBaums World and the creator who hosted the videos from his own domains. In the years after, Hasbro has made no attempts to remove videos appearing on Youtube or react towards Fensler who’s since re uploaded the production to his website.
My homegirl posted the video Porkchop Sandwiches and I couldn’t stop laughing - something I hadn’t done in a long time and needed right then and there (it hadn’t been a pleasant evening and I was nearly in a bad emotional place). Watching the PSA Compilation inspired me to rename an already stagnant insta profile and share at will. In doing so I’ve found a way to maintain my sanity by either looking back on these silly dubs or releasing emotion, which hasn’t done me wrong or made me consider my “image”.
I can celebrate my favorite films, writers, animals, personalities, graffiti on the street, this, that and weed. Anything really.
I consider it total freedom, another way to breathe and embrace the chaos while order makes itself.
